A lot of the damage to the image by a scratch is done by light scattered at the flanks of the scratch. If you paint over the scratch with black paint (felt tip pen is enough, matte black camera inside paint is best) improves the image quality again to something near the original state - just a bit less light.
Seen myself with a very expensive lens for a view camera, which had a scratched area of about 1cm radius.
If you don’t believe it, just cover a bit of your lens with black paper and compare.
Nice job, Chris. I’m glad that site with the smashed lens was helpful.
Does anyone have the URL to the page Leo visits on the scratched lens? I can’t find in show notes, or by STFW… TIA.
