<<point-and-shoot>>

Definition

This is what small automatic digital cameras are called. Such cameras are often very small (pocket-size) and often do not have interchangeable lenses. They are smaller and lighter than their DSLR counterparts and can be taken with you wherever you go. You turn them on, you “point” to a subject and then you “shoot” the picture. These cameras are popular with people who like the fact that the camera will make many of their exposure decisions for them.

Comments / Tips / Experiences

Take care when buying a point and shoot camera. Don’t think too much about “how many megapixels i can get for my money?” - less is more here! The more megapixels you have in such small cameras (which have very small sensors too) the more light you need to take good photos. Personally I would go for more than 4 megapixels with a small point-and-shoot to avoid noisy pictures full of grain all the time.
