Contrast

Definition

Contrast is the relative lightness and darkness in certain areas within a picture. While controlling contrast when seeing with your own eyes is very easy and happens automatically, it is very hard to reproduce the exact situation when it comes to photography.

Contrast is used to draw the attention onto the picture. Although the contrast shouldn’t be overdone, it is very important to obtain a certain level of contrast.

I’ve prepared three sample-shots about low/normal and high contrast:
