Composition

Definition

The Composition of your image is one of the things you have to do on your own, because the camera can’t help you there.

Composition is the way you present the picture, the angle you take it, everything considered before the actual shot is taken, what you determine is an essential part of your image, and what is not. Composition is how you determine what the subject of your image is, and how you want to present it to the viewer. There are many possible aspects to what makes a well-composed image, some of which are: leading lines, contrast, the rule of thirds, simplifying, filling the frame with your image, framing, pattern and balance. These are guidelines only, but it is important to know and understand them before venturing outside the guidelines. See the Image Composition-part of this library for some tutorials and additional information.
