Burning

Definition

Burning, as opposed to dodging, is a way to subtly darken portions of your image in your image editing software. It is originally a technique used in analog film developing which made it to the digital image-editing world in which after the initial exposure of the photo paper you would start a second exposure in which you mask everything except the part of the photo that needs to be darkened.
