The aspect ratio generally is the ratio within two sides of an image. If the picture has an aspect ratio of 1:1, the image height is the same as the image width.
It is expressed with its width divided by its height, which will be displayed in width : height, but you can also find a few with the fraction reduced to 1 (e.g 1,44:1).
*The aspect ratio of 35mm film and digital sensors in DSLR and point-and-shoot cameras is 2:3.
*The reason most pictures you had printed always seemed to be “missing” parts of the scene you know were in the frame is because, until the advent of 4×6 prints, no commercially available print size had a 2:3 aspect ratio. There was always some part of the frame that didn’t make it into a commercially bought print.
