Chris,
I’ve been “breathless with anticipation” to hear this podcast. It sounds to me like Robin and I share a great deal. He didn’t tall too much about pre-digital, I wonder if he used to shoot lith film and Agfa 561 for shadows and combine using a pin-registration system like I did.
Robin spoke about the Dicomed BigShot single shot digital camera. I purchased one of those for the design studio I built a photography wing onto. It cost $50,000 USD just for the back and yes, it was temperamental. If it crashed on you, you had to remove and reattach all it’s connections in a certain order to get it to start up again. We purchased a Hasselblad system, 2 or 3 lenses and Speedotron strobes. So all told, about $100,000 worth of gear.
The image was about 4800 x 4800 and was a little soft. Scan backs were far sharper but they took much longer to operate. Couldn’t shoot any live models with a scan back.
Anyway, I think I’ll check out your link to Robin’s site and say hi to him.
