This is something that worries me: http://www.met.police.uk/campaigns/counter_terrorism/ct_camera_2008.pdf

There is even an annoying radio advert about it as well.

Suspect everybody

Chris!
The US Photographer's Right Guide - http://www.krages.com/phoright.htm
:)

I loved this episode. Street photography is my favorite style and it's great to hear other ways to approach people.

Thanks!

Inspired by this podcast I decided to test the photography regulations a bit. I joined the lunch and tourist crowd for a break at the food court at the Westfield outdoor shopping center here in San Diego. It was a beautiful sunny day. There were quite a few people taking snapshots of each other, like most tourist do. I pulled up my D300 with the grip and not too large lens, the Tamron 50-17 f/2.8 to see what happened. I made some nice photos of the colorful surrounding. It took about two minutes before a representative from the Westfield marketing department approach me and asked for my photo permit. I said I just shoot for fun like everyone else and didn't have a permit. She asked for my business card for the "organization I represented". I told her again that I just shoot for fun. Than she said that she had to call for security if I continued taking photos. Well, I assume Westfield is private property, even though the outdoor environment more looks like a regular shopping street, so she was probably correct. However, shoe couldn't tell me which laws or regulations that prevented me from taking photos.

This shows that with a SLRs you are probably a terrorist, but with a 12MP point-and-shoot with an equivalent zoom you are just a tourist.
