Great episode. I was under the (mistaken) impression that a smaller apature would produced a sharper image. After listening to this episode I went out and did some tests on my main lens. I had wondered why the sharpness of some of my shots looked fine yet others were noticeably soft. Turns out the sweet spot on my Canon 28-135mm IS USM is somewhere between F8-11 (depending on the FD). Outside of that range and the image quality tended to really drop off.
Thanks for another great tip Chris.
