When i heard the theme “tripods” my first thought was boris (yes i am a happy shooting fan) and then he is on the show! Great! ;-)

  2. You can download original size files from Flickr pretty easy and automatic by using a greasemonkey script and an addon for flickr..

You of course need firefox and greasmonkey installed.

    Install this script: http://www.xs4all.nl/~jlpoutre/BoT/Javascript/Flickr/linkoriginalimage.user.js

    Install this addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/file/15927/downthemall!-0.9.9.10-fx+tb+fl.xpi

    ———

The script will add a small link to the corner of the photos on flickr that you can click to go straight to the original size photo (if available).

Right click the greasemonkey icon in the bottom right of firefox and goto MANAGE USER SCRIPTS and select Flickr Link Original Images on the left side of that dialog. In the INCLUDED PAGES section on the right, click ADD and input the following string:
    http:*flickr.com/groups/*

This will make the script work in the group section on flickr. Go to the group you want to get the images from, click the pool link, and go to the bottom where you can isolate a tag in that group and go to the tag you want to download the photos from.

To automate the download, you use the addon, Down Them All (DTA). Start DTA and on flickr group pool pages you will be good to go with the default settings. You might need to change the default download folder. Make sure you are on the links tab (at the top there is links and embedded tab) and that IMAGES is checked on inclusive filters. Then click start to download. If there is more the one page of photos you will have to do this on each page. Make sure you wait a couple seconds for all the photos to load and the script to populate the ORIG link on each photo. Some photos might not have the link but this is because they have restricted their downloads.

This might not be as automatic as a perl script that could do it in a couple clicks but you can pretty much download 24 photos (the amount in a group pool page) in a couple clicks. The photos will queue and you can go to the next page and add more photos to the queue while you are downloading.

Don’t hesitate to e-mail me if you had any further questions on getting this to work as I might have missed a step.

  3. I just typed out how to quickly download ORIGINAL size flickr photos of a certain tag in a group pool in a semi-automatic way with firefox using a greasmonkey script and a download manager addon; but when I went to input the captcha the page auto-reloaded and my post was lost and i am not going to type it out again at the moment.

If you want to do this with firefox instead of waiting for someone to code a perl script, don’t hesitate to e-mail me and I can help you quickly download the photos with some automation.

    Keep up the great podcasts!
