The expodisk provides a nice holder for a scattering sheet held right in front of the lens- I made something very similar for my scientific work ~4 years ago out of paper and some plastic rings.

Hi…I thought I would clarify a little something concerning the Expodisc. Unlike many white balance tools/gimmicks out there, the beauty of the Expodisc is that you point your camera AT THE SUBJECT and take a shot to set the WB. NOT the light source. This is the Expodisc’s claim to fame and it really excels in complicated mixed light situations–it can allow you to set a WB based on the total net result of all the light sources on the subject.

The guys at ExpoImaging first started by passing out Expodiscs to some prominant pros at one of the big photo shows (PMA maybe?). They were blown away by the feedback they received and many can’t do without it now.

I know it seems like I’m “slaughtering” this point, but I just want the Expodisc to get a fair shake. Cheers!
