Thank you Chris for bringing us the topic of Simplified Zone system, which I think bringing us to a different level of photography.

For those who want to get a more in-depth idea of the topic, i recommend a book by Mr. Bahman Farzad: The Confused Photographer’s Guide to On-Camera Spotmetering. It is a great book and Mr. Farzad is such a nice guy that I was given the book by him personally.

Check out his website on http://www.spotmetering.com/

CC asked the very questions i also had for low-light shooting (pushing ISO, lens issues, lighting). Thanks for answering them Chris.

Thanks for the advice on a simplified zone system. I’ll give it a try. I’ve been using a rougher version, where I will often meter off something that is close to 18% grey, lock the exposure in, then snap the picture.

Here in Maine I was trying to capture some of the bright yellow leaves this fall. If the leaves filled the frame the resulting picture would be dull and lifeless. When I metered off the darker grass, the yellow leaves really popped.

Your system will likely take more time but will also be more accurate.

I’m a new listener, keep it up, I really enjoy your podcast.

hey chris great episode. i remember using the zone system back in the university on my light & camera classes. it’s used a lot for cinema, you know, because it’s very important to carry consistence on exposure from one shot to another, so many times they write down the zone they had the face or a particular element on the frame from one shot to another.
