The Tips From the Top Floor podcast is fantastic. I just discovered your show last week thru the iTunes update and I’m hooked. Great tips, fun advice, etc. I’m equally impressed with your sound editing, intro clips from fans (I’ll send one soon) and musical interludes. Thanks. Keep up the good work!!!

Great fantastic show… but how come the first 50% of each show is just a bunch of hellos. When I listen to your show I allways find myself skipping the first 50% to cut to the photography!
Hi Sheb,
thanks for the feedback! How many shows have you listened to? Just curious, because the intro has different length for different shows. Sorry that the format doesn’t work for you though, it does for many other listeners. But fast forward is always an option
Cheers,
Chris
Great show, has anyone ever told you that you sound just like John Cale from The Velvet Underground who narrated “Gift” from the White Light/White Heat album?
Bill, haha.. that’s funny. No, nobody ever told me, I’ll have to check that out
I started listening to Tips From the Top Floor with iTunes 4.9 release. I will only vote for you on Podcast Alley if you learn to adjust your levles in a comfortable range for listening. When I am riding my bicycle and listening to your podcast on my iPod, your intro music and close music is so loud that it is unberable to the ear drum. If I turn my volumn down to decrease the level of the intro music, then your voice level is too low to hear above to din of city auto traffic. This is a rookie error. So I am constantly having to adjust the level down from the intro and back up for the show and then back down for the close. Not good when riding the bicycle in city traffic.
The content of your show is fabulous and keep up the good work Chris!
Jolly Rancher,
I don’t have an iPod, so I can’t reproduce it here, but maybe (I’m just guessing) you have some setting on your iPod that does that? Oddly enough nobody else has reported this issue, and I know that a lot of listeners use an iPod to listen to my show.
Greetings,
Chris
This is a very simple issue. Since Chris has inspired me so much and provided such an interesting informative show I will help you.
In itunes, go to preferences => audio => select sound check. I believe that will eliminate the problem.
If that is not successful, go to your pod => Settings => Sound Check => On
Short of that, someone send Chris a pod so he can figure it out. I am sure he would send it back.
BTW Congrats to Christ for going from 5000 on 7-12 to 6000 on 7-14.
“if I had a penny”
PitzerTad,
thanks for clarification, I know that iTunes had that feature, I wasn’t aware that the iPod has it too. Makes sense.
Oh yes, and if someone’s got an iPod to give away, I’d be happy to do an in-depth test.. maybe over a year or two..?
Congratulations on establishing such a big listenership. I’ve only found your show recently, and am really enjoying your style.
Keep up the great work!
This is a simple thing, not an elaborate techno-problem. It is clear you are bringing the pot up for the opening and closing music. It seems quite delierbate and nothing the iPod is doing. The iPod will, if you configure it to do so, adjust levels to smooth the differences from one song to the next (like an sound editor would do to match levels between cuts in a film) but it does not know Chris’ opening and closing musical themes or when they will come up in relation to the testimonals from listeners and other pre-mix. The iPod only does adjust levels to match between songs not up and down throughout the same song or podcast. And, of course, the pot going up for the theme song doesn’t only happen on the iPod, it happens on the desktop computer as well.
You don’t have to do anything about it if you don’t wish to but I just won’t vote for Tips Form the Top Floor in Podcast Alley… or if that makes you really, really, really sad than I will go vote but I just want to point it out — the discomfort it causes.
Hey, I was one of your first 10 listeners, back in April. I am 13 and have some pictures posted on your site before, so all I can say is, you went from 10 to 5,000 in a few months, keep up the good work.
Congrats! I just recently subscribed and love the show. Congrats on using Wordpress here too, it’s awesome.
you may want to get some of the code configured better though, such as the edit-page links
thanks miguel! currently the preferred way of getting the show is through iTunes, but if you download via winamp, that’s also okay
Where can we purchase/download the TftTF theme song? … no matter where you go …
