Today’s show is an experiment. It’s quite a bit different from what I’m usually doing on the show, as it includes a bit of what we podcasters call “sound-seeing”. I’ll give you an insight into my photography process from taking the picture (”almost live” from my top floor window! :)) through to the actual post-processing.
Not a really artistic image, but it’ll serve to illustrate the point
of what a bit of burn and dodge can do to an image.
Before…

…and after

Normally I hang on every word but this new experiment does not work, at least for me. I am a teacher and I can tell you that when you try and do a play by play commentary while demonstrating a skill, students will get distracted. I did. It is even worse when I can’t see what you are doing. I could even finish the broadcast. I have no idea what you were trying to accomplish. Please go back to the fast paced format you have been doing. I always try every thing I learn from your podcast.
Warm regards,
John
Chris, loved the detailed look at some of your digital work flow. The longer show format was a treat. Thanks for turning me on to DIM - works great on Linux with Gimp. All photographers can learn tips by watching, or in our case listening to, ours process their images.
Thanks and keep those longer shows coming.

Hi Chris
I think this format is excellent and found I learned loads - so thank you. I don’t know whether it’s possible to do offer a link to a screenshot as you offer this very valuable advice on post-pro?
Also, I feel a bit slow but I just can’t get the RSS feed to work but, there again, I’ve never tried this before.
Hey chris,
Just stumbled across your site this is great very informative and enjoyed the sound seeing tour very much.
Keep the shows coming the longer the better.
thanks
Hi again Chris!
The long format was a refreshing change in your normal routine. The best part about it is that you brought together a number of different topics that you have discussed in detail in previous shows. Your running commentary on your workflow exposed a few little tips that otherwise wouldn’t have surfaced (like shooting first to get the exposure right, then shooting again to capture the desired composition).
The in-depth short format is great for day-to-day shows, but a longer full-process show every once in a while pulls it all together nicely.
Great work!
Bob
Hi Chris:
I’m new to podcasts and yours is the first one I tried with iTunes. I listened to some of your other shorter shows and this one in particular I liked as it gives me an insight into what other photographers do. I’m not saying just do this type of show but I liked it in the mix. Good stuff. Thanks.
Alex
LOVE this format!
